As your student prepares for this new journey of their life, it is important that you—as a family—stay informed and connected. Your support in navigating the financial aid process is critical to ensure your student makes the best financial decision for themselves and your family. Our hope is that we can work together and make a Pitt education affordable for you. Below you will find resources regarding financial aid.

  1. Types of Aid
    In order to make informed decisions about your student's financial aid, it’s important to know your options and know the difference between types of financial aid.

  2. Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)
    It is important that your student maintains Satisfactory Academic Progress in compliance with federal student financial aid regulations. The academic performance of students enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh will be reviewed annually.

  3. Financial Aid Release Form
    The financial aid office is able to speak to any person listed on the student's most current FAFSA application. If you are not listed on the student's FAFSA, the student must authorize our office to release financial aid information by submitting the financial aid release form.

    4. FERPA

    The Federal Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), as amended prohibits the financial aid office from speaking to any individual who is not listed on the FAFSA application (a financial aid release form is required for those who are not listed.)

    Student Employment

    The Federal Work Study program provides part-time employment opportunities for students enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh.

    Pell Plus Program

    Pell Plus Program will match any Federal Pell Grant awarded up to the federal maximum Pell Grant amount of $7,395 for the 2023-2024 academic year.
